- NC Report (Jeanine Davide & Minnie Dayton)
- Jeanine's Report of her class: Analyze digital footprint, digital wellness and analysis of apps and purpose, cybersecurity and passwords, website credibility. Minnie’s report of her class: online predators, grooming, sexting, online appropriateness. Who can kids talk to when they feel unsafe? News literacy for accuracy and bias. Phone safety. Minnie passed out some resources for online safety.
- Josh mentioned the law enforcement perspective that kids are recording everything on their phones. School Resource officers can subpoena a phone when a crime has happened. Students need to understand their culpability. Minnie mentioned she covers this along with Utah Law and what might be considered a crime. Kade asked when these lessons are taught. Jeannine said sporadically all year. Minnie hits the lesson each trimester. Cindy expressed gratitude for Minnie and our teachers for their work here in our school. She also expressed thanks to teachers. Jake Hall mentioned Digital Literacy is moving from 8th to 7th. Cindy explained that the current 8th graders didn’t have digital literacy and are now getting it in 8th. The 7th and 8th graders are getting it at the same time, next year it will be just in 7th.

- Data Project
- Jake Hall discussed a data project in the works this year. The project is looking at needs and issues of attendance and absenteeism. They have chosen some 8th grade students to work with who had less than 80% attendance. The goal is: To decrease the average percentage of absences by 1% for this group of students by the end of the 2nd trimester.
- Counselors are sending nudge letters to give positive feedback in the hopes parents are encouraged to get their students to school. Counselors have decided students and set weekly goals with students. Students are getting praise along with reinforcements like candy, chips, pop. Counselors are looking at getting some switch games to be available for students in BARC time. A mom reached out to Jake that her son was very motivated to come for the rewards, even when sick.
- Data Project
- School Safety
- Report (Annette Hepworth, Joshua Nelson)
- Annette: mentioned training that happens with the staff, along with the drills we hold each month. We work on keeping classroom doors locked and shut. We use the APP DIR-S to send and receive alerts in classrooms. There are monthly safety meetings with a committee. We are working on a site assessment that will look at the holes we have here at North Cache. This will allow future grants to be applied for to obtain money for fixing. Annette explained what each drill code means. She passed out a sheet with the information for HOLD, SECURE, LOCKDOWN, EVACUATE, and SHELTER. We are retraining teachers and students to assess the situation rather than just evacuate. We HOLD first and assess before an evacuation. Cindy mentioned the double notification and the norm that teachers are asked to keep their doors locked and shut all the time. Cindy mentioned that our goal is to help kids stay regulated during an alarm. These standard protocols are universal to all schools and emergency responders in the state of Utah. Safety access doors have been added that automatically lock on a pre programmed schedule so people can’t get in. Safety film on all the doors and windows, and updated PA systems are coming next year. The doors locking also reduces tardiness.
- SCC Discussion
- Ashley asked if this will move to buttons that will be pushed to let people in. Annette responded that it is all being looked at and evaluated for improvement and future change. 8th grade team will be recognized for stopping someone who entered the 8th grade hall. Every adult who walks in the school should have ID badges to identify themselves. Ashley asked more about the doors that are locked during all parts of the day. Cindy mentioned that the doors between the lunch building are left unlocked and all others are locked.
- Needs? NONEat this time.

- Report (Annette Hepworth, Joshua Nelson)
- Positive Behaviors Plan update (Josh Nelson/Susie Maugan/SaraKay Larsen)
- PBIS interventions and support: Josh displayed a poster that will hang with hallway expectations. He uses BARC to come up with expectation posters for different areas where expectations may change ie: the commons, the lunchroom, the hallway, the library. The purpose would be to refer to them and have kids refer to them when needed. Students and staff have a quiz to understand the BARC acronym. Then, there will be some SEL lessons given during advisory time. After the third trimester, the outcome will be assessed for effectiveness. Bulldog tickets are given as a reward for positive behavior that follows the expectations of these posters. Weekly drawings for prizes occur for students who get Bulldog tickets. Josh conducted a study at White Pine by interviewing staff and students about what these behaviors look like. He is hoping for vertical alignment of behaviors between elementary and middle school students. He mentioned picture cases that hang in the hall of the high schools that display students that are modeling good behavior. We are looking at having a similar display case here at North Cache. District opinion: never assume that everyone understands the meaning behind our acronyms. Direct teaching is needed.
- Cindy asked “How aligned is the phrasing and vocabulary from school to school?” Josh said it is very similar. They chose two bullet points for each item to keep it simple. There are commonalities, but ours is narrowed down to most important items. District asked about walking to White Pine and their mission statement. Josh mentioned we are modeling this here. Our mission statement hangs above the door as they enter. Cindy mentioned that most students would say Be The Difference is the mission statement and that direct instruction is needed.
- Kade mentioned that she likes the positive focus. Kade made the motion to cancel the December meeting and reconvene Jan. 15th. Kelli seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

- Recent challenges:
- Multiple, new students who don't speak English
- Carson speaks spanish, so this helps. Students that only speak Spanish are at 6. This is on the rise. Cindy clarified a question that Katie asked about where these students go during the day. Students with no English go to pull out ELL class where they receive basic language skills. A new class is being started for new students to attend for a week before they are integrated into the classroom. Brynley will get a hold of Paula Hull to find out more about this.
- Increasing severe behaviors We have amp programs, one on one aides. Focus is increasing good behavior in order to improve academics. We need aides desperately. Cindy talked about the district's need to make these jobs more attractive to incoming employees. Josh will follow up with checking if the add is still in place for applicants.

- RISE Data
- Cindy explained our last year’s RISE data for the 23/24 school year. This got us off the list for Targeted Schools for Improvement. Cindy explained that the numbers represent the percentage of students who are proficient. Cindy explained that we have to look for trends because these students move on to high school.
- Academic Data (Professional Learning Teams)
- Identify Academic Needs Cindy shared the team goals with data sheet for data that demonstrates growth, and an action plan for students who are below proficiency.
- 4 year FOCUS Plan 2.0 (Year 4)
- Cindy discussed where we are with our FOCUS plan. She explained the guaranteed and viable curriculum. Teams have determined the essential standards that will be taught. The second piece is ensuring that teachers use research based Best Practices teaching strategies to ensure learning. Each class is focusing on authentic literacy activities in each classroom. Then, we meet weekly in PLT teams to look at data, analyze curriculum, and determine needs for all students. Cindy discussed “hedgehog” focus where we take it one specific step at a time to make sure all teachers understand how to implement these practices and strategies.
- Student Support
- Cindy explained the following:
- Academic & Social-emotional:
- BARC Time (TSS) Last half hour of the day for intervention using TSS software for scheduling.
- Learning Strategies, AMP, Lunch Time Learning, ELL remediation This is for students who still need more than typical support. Some happen on a daily basis for a student, and some can be as needed (Lunch time learning). Some are behavioral supports instead, which are sent to mentor programs.
- Reading incentives program (M Dayton)
- Courses: Supplemental, Team-taught, Sheltered, Reading Extension Teachers use data collected to determine who would benefit from these classes.
- Classroom teacher aides
- Mental Health Counselor District paid half of this and the other half came SLT funds.

- NC Counseling Department
- Action Items: Next Meeting: Feb 19 @ 3:00
- Cindy is asking as we put together next year's Trust lands plan and TSA plan, do we feel like there are any gaps? Places where more support is needed.
- Katie asked if we felt there are any gaps that we see that could be improved. Cindy disclosed that we are evaluating having a full time mental health counselor here at North Cache. We are still evaluating this to tweak and analyze to see if it is effective. The tricky part is to determine what belongs in a public school and what may need more support.
- Kade commented that the biggest issue must be to find people who are willing to come in and work here at North Cache for the $. Cindy mentioned a change in our AMP program with a new employee and aide. This has had a learning curve. We are having some improvements with this as well.
- Kathy asked about the calendar change for next year, and 6 days for professional development before school starts, and how will this work. Cindy explained that we are still trying to figure out how this will look for our school next year. Kathy wondered if this would impact our plan. Cindy said we will make a plan. Lisa Nish said these would be used for common curriculum and planning. Kathy is curious about what this much time leading into a new school year will look like. Cindy clarified that we still need to ask some clarifying questions about the upcoming calendar as it was just adopted yesterday.
- Cindy mentioned that she funded 3 days in the summer for curriculum planning to aid in the new curriculum implementation. Josh said these build toward the RISE testing. He anticipates this will benefit new teachers, assessing how RISE went with teams. This may give us an opportunity to look at gaps where we may not have had time before.
- Cindy mentioned bringing Solution Tree would have been better in the Fall, so this could be a possibility for onboarding new teachers and smoothing team functions. Josh mentioned that it is good that it came from a listening tour, where teachers and parents gave input and were actually heard.
- Kathy said it was an organic process, as they were all set to approve. They heard of some upset, and waited and put on the brakes for the original adoptions.
- CIndy mentioned that the first day back for school is the 11th of August and may be a source of complaint.
- Cindy asked for input on funding. Everyone agreed it was good.
- All adjourned!
